But, I have yet to see anything about what happens after you retire in Thailand. How do you survive day-to-day in your newfound country?I have been coming to Thailand since 1973 and retired in Khon Kaen in 2010. I was working for the U.S. Army as a civilian (GS type worker) and worked the bare minimum amount of years, bought some active duty military time, and moved to the Land of Smiles at age 57.When I retired, I received a reduced pension because I retired early but combined with money from my Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) and the sale of a townhouse, I did just fine. I recently qualified for a U.S. Army Reserves retirement when I hit 60 years old. And I also will qualify for Social Security at 62. So, I will soon have three forms of retirement income that will make it super easy to survive the Land of Smiles.I will talk a bit on preparing to make the big move, but the main focus is on maintaining your sanity once you are here and some hints and tips on how to do just that. This is NOT a “Retire in Thailand for $XXX per year” book. This is what I do in Thailand on a daily or regular basis to get by and enjoy the good life.Retired in Thailand will benefit anyone wanting to retire in the Land of Smiles and also has additional information for U.S. Government and U.S. Military employees.
